all the lines of longitude meet at the poles but the lines of lattitude never meet,why?

as we know that Earth Axis passing through its North and South pole taking a point on the axis into consideration and extending a line output on the surface of the globe v designate as 0 degree longitude that pass through Greenwich observatory in England by doing this we created a reference for constructing other longitudes now by making angles with perpendicular line extending from the access to the surface we draw lines on the surface taking these points into consideration we are bound to get lines that pass through the poles so by doing all this stuff we can easily determine the degree of eastern or Western edge of a place by taking the consideration of the position of prime meridian that's all is in its significance....
