They release O2 during the daytime as they do the process of photosynthesis with the help of chlorophyll present in the leaves and in the presence of sunlight.

the reaction of photosynthesis is :

6CO2 + 6H2O -----> C6H12O6 + 6O2

They take co2 from the air and h2o from the soil.The o2 is released from the stomata.

At night, they cannot do photosynthesis as sunlight is not there. They release co2 not only in night but also in daytime as they also respire as every organism. the Co2 is the byproduct of respiration.

Explanation:

because at the day time plants need co2 for the process of photosynthesis and release oxygen as it want co2 and sunlight for this process of photosynthesis
