All the sodium atom in 0.23 mg of sodium vapours are
to be converted in Na+(g). If IE of sodium is
495 kJ/mol, then calculate the energy required.
Atomic mass of sodium is 23.

Ionisation energy: The Minimum energy required to remove most loosely held outer most shell electron in the ground state from an isolated gaseous atom is known as ionization potential.

Here,

No. of moles of sodium = 23

2.3×10 ^−3

=0.1×10 ^−3 moles

So energy needed to convert into ions

= 495×10^3

(0.1×10 ^−3)=49.5 joule
