All these years we have been learning that bone is the hardest substance .
But isn't enamel the hardest substance ??

enamel present in the mouth is the hardest substance in the body . As I think bone is the second hardest substance in the human body..

I don't know who has told you that bone is the hardest substance in the body.
But, for sure, the enamel is the hardest substance in the body, which needs a drill to break through.
Though, this enamel can be slowly eroded by the bacteria that settle here and multiply with the help of the sugar content taken in, and it respires, and then produces an acid. This acid slowly destroys the enamel, and then the layers inside, and finally the innermost pulp, causing pain on touching the nerves. This is a cavity.
