The Allahabad pillar was moved from Kaushambi and installed within Akbar's Allahabad Fort.

The Allahabad pillar is an Ashoka Stambha. Ashokan inscriptions suggest that it was first erected at Kaushambi, the capital of the kingdom of Koshala. When the region came under Muslim rule it was shifted to Allahabad.

It is one of the few extant pillars which carry the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka's edicts. It contains later inscriptions of Samudragupta, the Gupta emperor and also the inscriptions of Jahangir, the Mughal emperor.
