Answer:

y : x           [Allen to Annie]

Step-by-step explanation:

 As we know, speed = distance/time

                   ⇒ time = distance/speed

Let the distance travelled by each of them be 'd'.

Time taken by Allen = d/x     ...(1)

Time taken by Annie = d/y   ...(2)

On dividing (1) by (2), we get

⇒ Time by Allen : time by Annie = (d/x)/(d/y)

⇒ Time by Allen : time by Annie = y / x

Given :-

Allen and Annie travel at x m/s. and y m/s. respectively. If the space covered by both of them is same

To Find :-

What is the ratio of the time taken

Solution :-

Let the distance covered by Allen be S

Distance covered by Allen = Distance covered by Annie

Distance covered by Annie = S

Time = Distance/Speed

For Allen

Time = S/x

For Annie

Time = S/y

Now

Ratio = Allen : Annie

Ratio = S/x : S/y

Ratio = (S/x)/(S/y)

Ratio = S/x × y/S

Ratio = y/x
