Alloy A contains 40% gold and 60% silver. Alloy B contains 35% gold and 40% silver and 25% copper. Alloys A and B are mixed in the ratio of 1:4 .What is the ratio of gold and silver in the newly formed alloy is?

Let’s say Alloy A weighs 100g and so does Alloy B.

And let the newly formed alloy be C, again 100g.

Now, 20% of C is Alloy A and 80% is B.

That means, 20g of C consists of 8g gold and 12g silver and 80g of Z consists of 28g gold, 32g silver and 20g copper.

You can see that there is a total of 36g gold and 44g silver in alloy C.

Your ratio is 36:44, or 9:11.
