Alluvial Plains are regarded as the granaries of the world because of the following reasons:;  

• It is very fertile as it is one of the largest alluvial deposit in the world. "Alluvial soil" is the most fertile soil in the world. This fertility helps in cultivation  in a large amount of crops  

Rivers coming from the Himalayas deposit minerals in these plains. So there is no deficiency of water and minerals in this region  

• Due to these reasons, several crops such as rice, wheat, mustard etc can be grown. These are generally those crops which are consumed as food.
