They are formed by the denudation of different types of rocks and deposition of silt by various rivers.

(b) They are found along inland rivers, deltas of rivers and along the coast.

(c) Main characteristics are:

(i) Rich in potash, humus and lime.

(ii) Deficient in nitrogen and phosphorous.

(iii) Bhangar-older alluvium, light grey

Alluvial soil is found in the deltas of rivers like Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri, on the eastern coastal plains.

Features of the alluvial soil are:-

It contains different proportion of sand, silt and clay.

It is very fertile and good for growth of wheat,paddy,sugar cane,pulses etc.

It contain right proportion of potash,lime and phosphoric acid.

In drier regions like Rajasthan, it is alkaline and require proper treatment for irrigation.
