Alluvial soil is the most widespread soil in India which has been deposited by three important Himalayan rivers systems that is the Indus ,the Ganga and the Brahmaputra,covering about 45.6 % of the area.
Due to its high fertility area having this soil are intensively cultivated and densely populated.

Some features of Alluvial soil are:-

● It is made up of silt, sand and clay rich in nutrients nutrients like potash, phosphoric and acidic and lime. It is suitable for growing paddy wheat , sugarcane and others cereal and pulse crops.

● This soil is most common in the piedmont planes that are at the foothills such as to Duars, Chos and Terai.


●On the basis of age it can be categorised as Bangar and Khadar.
