A tectonic is an eminent piece of a rock which rests beneath the earth, the boundaries cannot be seen because they are somewhere beneath the ocean but they are visible from the outers space. 
Earthquake is usually concentrated in these areas, like everything else the plates change so they result in an Earthquake.

A tectonic is a rock which lies under the earth surface and is only visible when seen from the outer space. When ever these plates changes their position. The mantle inside the earth gets disturb and as a result, earthquake happens.
