okay. so what is the mistake I am making while solving this question?

the answers are x= 18 and y = 36.

Answer 1

 8A + 20B = 1    ----------- (1)

 9A + 18B = 1    ------------- (2)

On solving (1) * 9 & (2) * 8, we get

72A + 180B = 9

72A + 144B = 8

--------------------

            36B = 1

                B = 1/36.


Substitute B = 1/36 in Above equations, we get

72A + 180B = 9

72A + 180(1/36) = 9

72A + 5 = 9

72A = 9 - 5

72A = 4

A = 4/72

A = 1/18.



If 1/x = A

x = 18



If 1/y = B

y = 36.
