Question :- Alok starts walking from P with a speed of 6 km/h towards Q. At the same time Raman starts from P towards Q with a speed of 9 km/h. Raman reaches Q, turns back and starts walking towards P. He meets Alok at R. If PQ is 15 km, then what is PR ?

Solution :-

P ------------------- R ------------ Q

  • PQ = 15 km.
  • Distance travelled by Alok = PR .
  • Distance travelled by Raman = PR + RQ + RQ
  • Distance travelled by Alok + Raman = PR + PR + RQ + RQ = 2(PR + RQ) = 2PQ = 2 * 15 = 30 km.

so,

→ Time taken by (Alok + Raman) to cover 30 km = Distance / usual speed = 30 / (6 + 9) = 30 / 15 = 2 hours.

therefore,

→ Distance travelled by Alok in 2 hour = PR = speed * time = 6 * 2 = 12 km (Ans.)

Hence, PR distance is 12 km.
