α DNA Polymerase is an enzyme found in eukaryotes to initiate replication at ori.(both lagging and leading strands)

once RNA primer has created it starts replication with approx 20 nucleotides.

It contain four subunits :

  1. catalytic subunit
  2. regulatory subunit
  3. small primase and
  4. large primase.

α DNA ploy lack 3' exonuclease activity. And has low processivity.
