  • The centripetal force on the particle is λe/ πε₀r.

Alpha particle is revolving around an infinitely long  line charge of linear charge density λ at  perpendicular distance from it.

Electric field due to infinitely long line charge is given by,

E = λ / 2πε₀r

Centripetal force required is (F₁) = mV² / r

The electrostatic force of attraction between the particle and wire is given by-

F₂ = 2eE

F₁ = F₂

So centripetal force on the particle is = 2λe/2πε₀r = λe/ πε₀r
