Split ring reverses the direction of current in the rectangular coil.
Slip ring is also know as complete ring and passes current to the circuit via a fixed brush.
Split rings are used in the electric motor and slip rings are used in the generator.

Function
Dc motor is direct current and its direction is unidirectional
Ac generator is alternating current and it’s direction gets reversed after every rotation
We prefer to have AC over DC as It can transmit electricity over large distance without much loss of energy
