Be has atomic number 4 and B has atomic no. 5.
By quantum theory, its configuration could be as:
Be=1s^2 2s^2 and
B= 1s^2 2s^2 2p^1
This shows that Be has two shells full but B has 1 electron in next shell too,
and acc. to Hund's rule that half filled or fully filled orbital is more stable than un-filled orbital, Be is more stable and wants more 1st ionization enthalpy.
