It is true that although many different sectors and types of industries contribute significantly to the economic development of India, it also causes a lot of environmental pollution which cannot be overlooked.
1. Oil refineries - Oil and Petroleum industry in India is one of the major sectors that contribute significantly to the Indian economy. There are many oil refineries in India along the coastal line. However, they may cause oil spills, and the oil and wastage may seep into the groundwater making it toxic and unavailable for human and animal use, apart from polluting the atmosphere and the water bodies.
2. Chemical industries - The wastes from Agro-chemical industries, pharma industries, and other kinds of chemical industries dispose of their wastes inefficiently and mostly in nearby water bodies which pollute the water bodies and the atmosphere. This causes toxicity of the water and is hazardous to human, animal, and marine life.
3. Textile industries - After oil industries, Textile industries are known to cause the highest pollution in the environment. The fashion industry uses almost 25% of the world's chemicals for the production of textiles and contributes to almost 10% of the global carbon emission levels. This industry uses plenty of water, and releases toxic greenhouse gases into the air and pollutes it by decreasing the levels of available water and energy resources.
