Although nicola and jacopo are young boys , the author refers to them as gentleman .why did he do so?

because of their realy human qualities . being young do everything fir their sister. being yuoung they behave like mature person in this respect . so they called gentelman as only gentelman can do such things.

Nicola and jacopo show sterling qualities of gentlemen like strong determination, will power, sense of responsibility to get their tuberculosis ridden Sister back to normal health for which they work day and night ignoring their own comforts. An earnestness is seen in their eyes. Narrater is surprised by the qualities in these two young boys and rightly calls them 'two gentlemen '
