They are respected with the title "Gentlemen" as they did all sort of work just for the well being of their dear sister,Lucia. All that they did was an exception as you really won't find children of 12&13 ages doing these works with full dedication and a sense of responsibility towards their loved one! Also one of the main reason for them being called as a grntlemen was that they kept the reason of them doing these works secret so that no one helps them by and sort in sympathy...They did everything on their own and without any external help
