Planning is essential for an organisation yet it is not possible that planning may always work. Plans are made for the future by making assumptions and predictions with the help of the past performance. These plans may have worked in the past but it is not essential that they will work in the future as well. So, there is a possibility that these plans might fail.
Three limitations of planning are:
1) no guarantee of success- Planning does not guarantee any success for the future. The environment keeps on changing and if once the plans are made it is difficult to change them again and again according to the environment. The plans may have worked in the past may not work in the future.
2) planning involves huge cost- planning is an intellectual process and it requires a huge cost. So, in an organisation professionals are hired to make the plans.
3) Planning leads to rigidity- plans have no flexibility once made cannot be changed.
