This is because in Antarctica,where temperatures are the lowest,due to bitterly cold Antarctic winds,the stratospheric ice clouds promote production of chemically active chlorine and bromine, which cause ozone depletion. When sunlight returns in the Antarctic spring,ozone destruction is caused because ozone is reduced by sunlight. Hence an ozone hole or an ozone depleted area is in Antarctica.
