A sponge is a solid which has many minute holes in which air is trapped. if we press it , the air trapped escapes , and we are able to compress it.

This helps the sponge to regain its shape and mass.Similarly, rubber band is also solid as it has definite shape and volume. If any force is applied to stretch it, only then it changes the shape however it regains the shape due to its intermolecular force of attraction.
