For scientific study and the prevailing quality pattern, the atmosphere of earth has been divided into five layers viz,1 . troposphere 2.stratosphere 3. Mesosphere 4.Thermosphere and 5 Exosphere . Above the earth they extend upto 10 km,10–30km 30–50 km,50–400 km and above 400km respectively. The temperature reduces with the height in troposphere, increases in stratosphere region and again decreases in the mesosphere region, and again increases in the thermosphere layer. This is natural phenomenon. We live in the troposphere layer wherein temperature decreases with height. Now, how and why ? Surface water in the oceans, rivers, lakes, ponds etc gets heated by the hot sun rays, turns into gaseous state. get less denser and moves up against gravity, and gets cooled by the natural phenomenon/ thermal condition of the troposphere layer. So Bangaluru is colder than Chennai,Ootacamund is colder than Bangaluru, Everest is colder than Ootacamund, and so on.and the coolness depends upon the mean sea level(height) at which the place is situated.Thank God we live in troposphere layer which is filled with 78%of nitrogen,21.5%of oxygen and 0.5 of other gaseous elements(% approximate)

hope its helps you
