Although the British and Indian parliament brought many laws to end social evils yet they still continue to exist in the Indian society most probably because most communities and societies are conservative in nature.
This essentially means that people tend not to leave the status quo that is the way things are done.
Just look at any community which tends to practice what was being done by their ancestors. All that these communities believe in is that they cannot ignore the status quo. That is how they used to do things in the future is the same way they still do their things.
