Although the negative charges and positive charges of an element are equal still why does the atomic size decreases across the period

Answer:

because along the period electrons get added up in the same orbit and hence the distance of the electrons remain same whereas the proton number also increases which in turn increases the effective nuclear pull on the electrons.. and so the size reduces.. hope this helps.
