The fusion of gametes is called fertilisation. The fusion forms a zygote, which divides repeatedly to form the embryo. During the process of fertilization the sperm fuses with the egg cell. The content of the sperm cell is transferred into the egg, to form the zygote. Hence, the product formed is a single celled zygote
