Answer:

Two gametes fuse to form a single cell called zygote by the process of fertilization. It happens as the sperm moves towards the egg. Only the nucleus of the sperm penetrates further in the egg to fuse with its nucleus whereas the rest of the sperm degenerates. Hence zygote is a single cell containing nucleus of both egg and the sperm.
