Wood gas a high calorific value but it is not used as a fuel because it is harmful for the environment as it leaves harmful gases like CO2 , and smoke. These gases are harmful and unhealthy for living beings , thus , it is not used as a fuel even though it has high clorific value.

Wood is inefficient and very costly. It would take a lot of wood to run a car. Earlier, in the past, we used wood as a fuel, but after discovering that coal was more effective than wood, we started using coal as the main fuel, even though wood has a higher calorific value
