Explanation:

Aluminium is a metal because it is good conductor of heat and electricity, it is hard, shiny and it is malleable and ductile. They have high boiling and melting points. They possess metallic lustre, where as silicon it is considered as metalloid because it has 4 electrons in its outer orbit so it can donate electron like a metal or can accept 4 electrons like a non metal .so, it shows both the properties of metals and non metals , hence it is called as metalloid
