Aluminum is very highly reactive metal. when aluminum is exposed to air it reacts with oxygen and forms a white thin layer of aluminum oxide on it's surface. This layer forms protective coating on aluminum and prevents the reaction of aluminum with oxygen. Aluminum metal with this protective layer is used for making cooking utensils.
