Aluminium is extracted by electrolysis, as shown in the figure. Why can aluminium not be extracted by heating aluminium oxide with carbon?

Explanation:

some metals like zinc and copper can be extracted from their ores by this method but in case of aluminium its not possible since its highly reactive ,it cannot be easily reduced by agents such as carbon or carbon monoxide
