Aluminium is more reactive than iron yet there is less corrosion of aluminium as compared to iron when both are exposed to air. Give reason why!

Aluminium is indeed more reactive than iron yet there is less corrosion of aluminium as compared to iron , when both are exposed to air. This is because , when aluminium gets exposed to air , to form Al2O3 , it forms a protective layer, which protects the aluminium article from further corrosion . But, this does not happen with iron. When iron gets exposed to air , to form rust, it doesn't form any protective layer. So, the iron article further gets corroded .

Metals get corrodes due to reaction with oxygen in presence of moisture

I case of iron

It corrodes continuously because the oxide layer of iron is permeable to air and water . It's give condition for crossion on surface of iron

And

I case of aluminium

When aluminium get moisture and oxygen it formed a oxide layer that. Is very tough and do not allow for air and moisture to come contract with its internal surface . Hence . It prevent aluminium to further corrosion
