Answer:

Aluminum (blended with small quantities of other metals) is used on most types of aircraft because it is lightweight and strong. Aluminum alloys don't corrode as readily as steel

Reasons for using aluminum in making bodies of aircraft :

• Aluminum is a very light and strong metal. Pure aluminum has a high tensile strength of 13,000 psi.

• Aluminum can be mixed with other metals such as zinc, copper, magnesium,  manganese and silicon to form alloys that are resistant to corrosion.

• Aluminum is preferred over other stronger metals and alloys like iron and steel respectively, inspite of their higher strength.

• This is because iron and steel are heavier in weight, and are also prone to corrosion, unlike aluminum.

• Aluminum is also very cost-effective and economically advantageous.
