*Firstly , reduction of oxide ores of metals with
carbon requires a very high temperature. For
example:-2 Al2O3 + 3C= 4Al+3CO2 (at 5000°c).
*Secondly , at this high temperature the metal
will react with carbon and form metal carbide
and evaporate leaving nothing. For example
:-4Al+3C =Al4C3.
Also, reactive metals such as aluminium are extracted by electrolysis, while a less-reactive metal such as iron may be extracted by reduction with carbon or carbon monoxide.
