Aluminium react with oxygen to produce Aluminium oxide we know that all Metal oxides are basic in nature but in case of Aluminium oxide the oxide which is form is neither acidic nor basic and shows an intermediate property of both acid and basic oxide hence they are known as amphoteric oxide
