Qᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Aman's age is three times his son's age. Ten years ago he was five times his son's age .Find their present age.

ᴛᴏ ғɪɴᴅ :-

  • Aman's present age
  • Son's present age

sᴏʟᴜᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Let Aman's present age be x years and his son's age be y years.

then,

According to 1st condition :-

  • x = 3y. ---(1)

According to 2nd condition :-

10 years ago

  • Aman's = ( x - 10) years

  • Son's age = (y -10) years

( x - 10) = 5(y - 10)

x - 10 = 5y - 50

x = 5y - 50 + 10

x = 5y - 40. ---(2)

From (1) & (2) , we get

3y = 5y - 40

5y - 3y = 40

2y = 40

y = 40/2

y = 20

Put y = 20 in (1) , we get,

x = 3y

x = 3×20

x = 60

Hence ,

  • Aman's age = x = 60 years

  • Son's age = y = 20 years
