Length of the wall = 5m

Breadth of the wall = 2m

Area of the wall = b

= 5m×2m

= 10m²

Length of the door = 2m

Breadth of the door = 1m

Area of the door = b

= 2m×1m

= 2m²

Area to be painted

= Area of the wall - Area of the door

= 10m² - 2m²

= 8m²

Therefore, 8m² of area must be painted.

Area to be painted = 8m²

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the area to be painted, we first calculate the area of the wall and the area of the door.

Given:

Length of the wall = 5 m

Breadth of the wall = 2 m

Length of the door = 2m

Breadth of the door = 1 m

To calculate the area; we use

Area = Length * Breadth

Substituting;

Area of wall = Length of wall * Breadth of wall

Area of wall =  5 * 2 = 10 m²

Area of Door = Length of door * Breadth of door

Area of the door = 2 * 1 = 2m²

Now, to calculate the area to be painted we;

Area to be pained= Area of the wall - Area of the door

Area to be painted= 10m² - 2m²  = 8m²
