Equation of catenary is y=cosh(X/a)

In our problem a=10m . so we calculate X for y=50m

Then y/a=cosh(X/a). (OR)

50/10=5=cosh(X/10)

Now from the tables of hyperbolic cosine function,

x/10=2.3 (OR)

x/10=2.3 (OR)

x=23

Hence distance between two poles is 46m.
