The amount Ambika possesses is Rs. 12 and the amount Dinesh possesses is Rs. 17.

  • Let the amount Ambika possess be x.
  • Now the amount Dinesh will be x+5.
  • Now the product of their amount is 204.

x(x+5) = 204

x^{2} +5x - 204 = 0

On solving the quadratic equation , we get

x = 12 and x = -17

  • As the amount cannot be negative therefore, the value of x cannot be -17.
  • The value of x is 12.
  • Therefore, the amount Ambika possess is Rs. 12 and the amount Dinesh possess is Rs. 17.
