Answer:

let that number be X

Operation 1= X-5

Operation 2=(X-5)8=8X-40

Now the results is 3 times the X so 3X

so 8X- 40= 3X

5X=40

X=8

The required number is 8

GIVEN :

  • Amina thinks of a number and subtracts 5 from it. She multiplies the result by 8.

  • The result now obtained is 3 times the same number.

TO FIND :

  • Required number.

SOLUTION :

Let the required number be x.

  • Amina thinks of a number and subtracts 5 from it. She multiplies the result by 8.

  • The result now obtained is 3 times the same number.

\implies \sf{(x - 5) \times 8 = 3 \times x} \\  \\

\implies \sf{8x - 40 = 3 x}  \\  \\

\implies \sf{8x -3x= 40} \\  \\

\implies \sf{5x= 40} \\  \\

\implies \sf{x =   \cancel{\dfrac{ 40}{5}}} \\  \\

\implies{ \underline{  \huge{ \boxed{ \pink{ \bf{x = 8}}}}}}

\huge {\green {\therefore}} Required Number is 8.
