Amir Kusrau gives the first graphic description of Jauhar whereby women of Rajputana sacrificed their lives to avoid defamation by foreign rulers, or Muslim rulers.  

Jauhar was a form of sati in which the women of Rajputana sacrificed their lives mainly because of the Hindu Muslim wars and not any inter-racine wars.
