Let the cousin's present age be x .

Amit's present age = x - 19

After 5 years, →

Cousin's age = x + 5

Amit's age = (x - 19) + 5

= x - 19 + 5 = x - 14

Now the ratio of the ages → 2:3

= 2:3 = (x+5):(x-14)

=

 \frac{2}{3}  =  \frac{x + 5}{x - 14}

By transposition,

2(x - 14) = 3(x + 5)

 = 2x - 28 = 3x + 15

= 2x = 3x + 15 + 28

= 2x = 3x + 43

= 2x - 43 = 3x

= (-43) = 3x - 2x

= - 43 = x

= x = 43

(Negative sign can be removed after the equation is complete)

Therefore, cousin's present age is 43 years.

Amit's present age is 43-19 = 24 years.
