Amit is 19 years younger than his cousin. After 5 years, their ages will be in the ratio 2:3. Find their present ages.

Solution :-

Let the age of Amit be x years

Then, the age of Amit's cousin will be = (x + 19) years

Age of Amit after 5 years = (x + 5) years

Age of Amit's cousin after 5 years = (x + 19 + 5) years

= (x + 24) years

Ratio of their ages after 5 years = 2 : 3

⇒ (x + 5)/(x + 24) = 2/3

⇒ 3*(x + 5) = 2*(x + 24)

⇒ 3x + 15 = 2x + 48

⇒ 3x - 2x = 48 - 15

⇒ x = 33

So, the present age of Amit is 33 years and

present age of Amit's cousin = 33 + 19

= 52 years.
