Ammonia is found in many household products, such as window cleaners.

It turns red litmus blue. It is alkaline in nature. The alkaline substances can turn the red litmus paper to blue.

When an alkaline substance dissolves in water, it then produces hydroxide ions. The pH balance of ammonia is 11.6 so it turns the red litmus paper blue.
