Ammonia smell fills the room rapidly when kept uncovered

this is due to diffusion. molecules of ammonia spread evenly in the whole room. this happens naturaly. molecules of ammonia travel in to the air and get spread when kept uncovered. when it is kept covered it can not spread in air
