  • the hydrogen evolved will be as a molecule, i.e, H2.

therefore the basic equation is : K + H2O ————→ KOH + H2 .

now all you have to do is ensure that there are the same number of atoms of each element on either side of the arrow and the products are the ones we need.

After balancing, it turns out to be: 2K + 2H2O ———→ 2KOH + H2
