Amoeba acquires its food through the process of endocytosis which means ingestion of macromolecules, low weight molecules and other particles from outside with the help of a portion of their cell membrane. The plasma membrane invaginates and extends further to enclose the extracellular material and engulfs them.

The flexibility of the cell membrane enables the cell to engulf in food and other material from its external environment.

Such process is known as 'ENDOCYTOSIS'
