Answer:
Vetti or Veth is also known as Begar was a form of forced labor in the pre-independent India.
Explanation:
During the pre-independent era, the peasants were forced to work on the fields of landowners and rural families. It was unpaid work. The Brahmins and the landowners were exempted from the vetti system. Under this system the peasants were forced to do unpaid work like building dams, roads, carry luggage for the royals.
Under British rule, the peasants, high or low caste alike, were forced to serve the Britishers, carry their luggage and wounded soldiers and do chores for them. It was very humiliating for the peasants to be forced to serve others and have no wages as well. The vetti system was banned later in the 19th century after a lot of efforts from the national leaders and reformists.
