hey..

Among halogens iodine has the smallest 1s orbital

manam86: ok thanks i will keep it in my mind
bhaveshvk18: my pleasure (€_€)
manam86: how to know which among the following is most acidic oxide @Mg0 ẞ Ca0 ©Na20 ®Al2O3
bhaveshvk18: The one which contains H+ ions are acids...
bhaveshvk18: but there is no H+ ion in any of them...so there are not acids..
manam86: explain plz??
manam86: plz dont mind actually i m not good in chemistry
bhaveshvk18: no problem....
bhaveshvk18: actually HCl , H2SO4 , etc are acids as they contain H+ ions....and NaOH,Mg(OH)2 etc are bases as they contain OH- ions
manam86: then what about acidic oxides?? as asked in mcq

But remember there are some other facts , which sometimes , in some cases dominate the periodicity of properties in periodic table of elements.

In case of iodine, The nucleus has greater number of protons, which attracts the 1S shell ( which is nearest to it ) more than in case of fluorine. You can say that the 1S shell in case of iodine shrinks as a result of attractive forces from the nucleus.

Thus 1S shell of iodine is smaller !!!!
